Oliver Laxe’s MIMOSAS is as hard to explain as it is to forget. A psychedelic North African western of sorts, the film is ostensibly about a band of devotees who are escorting a dying old sheikh to his home village for burial. With the addition of two mysterious strangers to their band, things become complicated, but fate, and perhaps quantum physics, also has a hand in this gorgeous and unusual film. Winner of the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at Cannes.
