There are no current or future screenings planned for this film.

Equalization schools were established throughout the American South to maintain racial distance from Blacks. Austin created its own segregated Black high school in 1909, and it rose to statewide glory and outgrew three campuses; in 1971 it was closed as a segregated school. Fifty years later, students still identify themselves by their mascot “The Yellow Jackets” and remain connected as a community.

In celebration of Black History Month, Austin ISD invites the community to participate in a screening of the film and a panel discussion with Yellow Jacket alumni. The purpose of this event is designed to hold space for our local history and to celebrate the resilience and community of these special Austinites as they excelled in a time of civil unrest.

This screening is a free community event, but you must reserve your ticket ahead of time.
