Join us for a special screening of THE GREAT PRETENDER, with director Nathan Silver in attendance.

New York-based indie director Nathan Silver joins us for a special holiday screening of his new dark comedy, set in New York’s theater world and starring Esther Garrel (LOVER FOR A DAY), Keith Poulson (SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME), Linas Phillips (RAINBOW TIME) and Maëlle Poesy-Guichard. Misanthropic playwright Mona (Poesy-Guichard) decides to capture the traumas of her failed relationship with Nick (Phillips) in a new theater project, but as actors take their place in Nick and Mona’s story, new desires and forbidden lines are crossed.

There will be a question and answer session following the film, moderated by filmmaker Robert Byington.

THE GREAT PRETENDER was made in collaboration with the public media entity in Brooklyn, BRIC, a public access facility similar to AFS’s Austin Public. Silver’s eight feature films to date include the festival favorites STINKING HEAVEN, SOFT IN THE HEAD, THIRST STREET and UNCERTAIN TERMS. His films have premiered at festivals including Locarno, Tribeca and the New York Film Festival, among others.
