The official plot synopsis for Julia Ducournau’s Palme d’Or winning sensation reads as follows: “Titane: A metal highly resistant to heat and corrosion, with high tensile strength alloys, often used in medical prostheses due to its pronounced biocompatibility.” That’s it. That’s the whole synopsis. Fortunately the critics have not been as oblique.

Peter Debruge of Variety says, “Ducournau dares to challenge the boundaries of sexuality and taste with this bulletproof, nothing-to-lose body-horror shocker.”

Hannah Strong of Little White Lies calls the film, “an intoxicating mix of grease, gore and gasoline.” It’s been a while since any film has had the effect on critics that this one has.

Witness Nate Jones of Vulture’s in-person report, “The whole way home, I noticed my teeth were chattering from the adrenaline. They’ve only just stopped.”

Starring Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon. This is one of those movies, like Ducourneau’s earlier film RAW, that will sear itself into your memory.
