Austin Film Society Kicks Off the 2018 Texas Film Awards

AUSTIN, TX – (November 8, 2017) Ticket sales open today for the Austin Film Society’s 2018 Texas Film Awards, to be held Thursday, March 8, 2018, on the eve of the SXSW Film Festival. The annual event will take place for the first time at the newly opened AFS Cinema, recently named a Best of Austin Critic’s Pick by The Austin Chronicle.

The event will also have a brand new format, with theater seating for the awards show, and an intimate reception for all guests. The full program and 2018 honorees will be announced in the months leading up to the event. Kathy Blackwell, Executive Editor of Texas Monthly, is the Chair of the event.

“AFS is excited to introduce guests of the Texas Film Awards to the AFS Cinema, the new hub for our artistic programs. With the Cinema, we are able to present an intimate and brand new Texas Film Awards experience in a space that we have created specifically for the benefit of Texas filmmakers and film lovers,” states Rebecca Campbell, CEO of Austin Film Society.

In addition to announcing the space and venue, the first artwork for the event has been released. Designed by Jennymarie Jemison (Five & Four), the logo and look reference the mid-century film titles work of artist and designer Saul Bass, whose film work can be seen in the title sequences of films such as NORTH BY NORTHWEST, VERTIGO and WEST SIDE STORY.
