AFS now offers virtual screenings through our AFS @ home platform. Please read below for frequently asked questions about the AFS virtual cinema.
For technical support, click here (please note: it can take up to 72 hours for a response). For any other questions or comments, click here.
Q: HOW DO I WATCH THE FILMS?
A: The majority of our virtual screenings will be offered through the AFS @ home site. Your ticket purchase supports AFS Cinema.
If this is your first time watching a film on the AFS @ home site, you will need to create an account. **IF YOU ARE A CURRENT MEMBER: This account will be different than your austinfilm.secure.force.com account.**
Once your payment has been processed you should receive a confirmation email, and the film will become available to you for 48 hours. If the film has yet to appear at afsathome.org, you can try refreshing your browser.
AFSathome.org’s confirmation emails do not contain a link to watch the film. To view the films you’ve rented through this platform go to afsathome.org, sign in, click ‘My Account’ and select ‘My Screenings’, where you’ll be able to see a list of all your purchased films.
You should be able to stream the film on your computer, tablet, or mobile device, and, if you have a television that is able to mirror your computer or phone, possibly on your television as well.
Q: HOW DOES RENTING THESE FILMS HELP SUPPORT AFS?
A: Proceeds from the virtual ticket purchases will help sustain our programming and support our efforts to reopen the AFS Cinema. Click here to learn about other ways you can support AFS.
Q: I JUST PURCHASED THE FILM, BUT I DON’T SEE HOW TO WATCH IT?
A: First, check your email, and make sure your purchase went through.

For many other platforms, the email you were sent should have a link for you to watch the film. If you are still having issues, please submit a support request here.

A: A guide to using Google Chromecast can be found here, and a guide for AppleTV’s Airplay is here.
Q: How else can I watch the film on my TV?
A: You can also connect your TV to your computer with an HDMI cable and an adapter. Watch this video for tips.
Q: ARE THERE MEMBER DISCOUNTS?
A: Yes! AFS members will receive a discount on many virtual screenings in the afsathome.org platform. You can see the full list of member discount-eligible screenings here. Please check your email for your discount code or email membership@austinfilm.org.
Q: CAN I USE MY FREE FILM PASSES FOR VIRTUAL SCREENING ROOM FILMS?
A: Unfortunately, that’s not an option. You’ll be able to use them when we reopen—thank you for your support!
AFS Discussion Club and Q&As
Q: WHAT DO I GET WHEN I REGISTER FOR A Q&A OR DISCUSSION CLUB?
A: When you register for our special event add-ons, you will receive a confirmation email with the date/time of the add-on. The day of the event, you will receive another email that includes the Zoom invitation for the event.
Q: HOW DO I WATCH THE FILM?

Q: WHEN DO I WATCH THE FILM?
A: You can watch the film whenever it’s convenient for you, before the set discussion time.
