“Alfred Hitchcock used to talk about being able to play the audience like a piano, hitting each key to get a specific emotional response; Haynes plays us like an accordion, stretching us out in myriad ways to hit the right notes.”
—Bilge Ebiri, Vulture

“A wonderfully tawdry, upsetting, and often hilarious film, that leans into its tabloid inspirations through an art house lens.”
—Estelle Zuckerman, Daily Beast

Todd Haynes reteams with his longtime collaborator Julianne Moore for a new film that examines a family wrenched by scandal with a darkly comic and richly melodramatic perspective.

Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, Gracie Atherton-Yu (Julianne Moore) and her two-decades younger husband Joe (Charles Melton) brace themselves for their twins to graduate from high school. When Hollywood actress Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman) comes to spend time with the family to better understand Gracie, who she will be playing in a film, family dynamics unravel under the pressure of the outside gaze.

AFS Artistic Director Richard Linklater will host a Q&A with director Todd Haynes — joining us via Skype — after the 6:30 PM screening on Friday, November 17.
