Special Event

There are no current or future screenings planned for this film.

The Austin Film Critics Association presents this special screening of SUPPORT THE GIRLS, the winner of their 2018 Austin Film award. Director Andrew Bujalski will be attendance for a Q&A. It has appeared on countless critics’ year-end lists – and even Barack Obama’s – if you missed it the first time around, or if you want to see it again, join us at the AFS Cinema for this special screening.

Lisa Conroy (Regina Hall, GIRLS TRIP) is the last person you’d expect to find in a highway-side “sports bar with curves,”– but as general manager at Double Whammies, she’s come to love the place and its customers. An incurable den mother, she nurtures and protects her girls fiercely–but over the course of one trying day, her optimism is battered from every direction…

Made in Austin, with a wonderful ensemble cast, SUPPORT THE GIRLS is one of the most surprising movies about “family” you’ve ever seen.

About the Austin Film Critics Association:
Founded in 2005 by Cole Dabney & Bobby McCurdy, the AFCA has seen its membership grow from single digits to well over 20 members with a diverse roster of professional film critics who regularly review movies for national television stations, daily newspapers, weekly alternatives, local radio, monthly magazines, and websites with international prominence.

Each December, AFCA members vote on the year’s best in film, celebrating excellence on both sides of the camera.
As part of the organization’s annual voting, the Austin Film Critics Association awards titles with local ties — works made in Austin and/or directed by a filmmaker living in town during their film’s production. This award is distinct to our group of critics, recognizing the talent of Austin filmmakers as we celebrate the best films of the year.
